While this area of Idaho isn’t exactly a “get away from it all” place, it certain is a primordial looking area. With the brown volcanic cliffs and sparse vegetation scenery one can easily imagine dinosaurs popping up from behind a rock outcropping. But the only wildlife I saw was 3 pronghorn antelopes, bunches of birds and a bull snake.
Rock hounding wasn’t a goal of this trip because I’ve never seen anything but rhyolite in this area, I did find some interesting specimens. You just never know when you’ll find a seam of quartz but I did. Along with the quartz there was some good examples of feldspar and a opalized quartz/feldspar conglomerate.
