( 15 Dec. 2019 / Author: Tim Bondy) On Nov. 26, 2019, while doing some last-chance sightseeing before the snow started accumulating, I came upon these groupings of weird seed collecting things in the desert north of Mountain Home, Idaho. I’ve never seen these things in the 12 years I’ve been living in this area. But I’ve been told they are seed collectors. This group of “things” was just one of three other groupings in the area along Canyon Creek Road.
As of 10 Dec. 2019, the seed collectors were still out in the fields.

Questions
- Considering the collectors are sitting in the middle of a large cheatgrass field with little other native vegetation, I was wondering what type of seeds the “creators of these seed traps” are hoping to collect?
- Is there a website with the collecting results and analysis available to view?
- Who is doing the collecting/analyzing of the data?
- How long is this particular project expected to last?
If anyone is knowledgeable about these types of studies/experiments, please let me know what they are all about. I might contact the BLM about them and will update this post if I get an answer from them.
