Idaho Marijuana Moms, Stanley Earthquakes, Jarbidge BLM Land Restrictions and Saving Council

Idaho Moms for Marijuana

#1. Idaho Moms 4 Marijuana: This organization is part of the Southern Idaho Cannabis Coalition who are trying to relax marijuana laws and/or legalize “weed”. Really? A group of mothers in Idaho who say to their kids “Do as I say, not as I do”? No matter your viewpoint of the current “War on Drugs”, I’m pretty sure involving mommy might not be the best marketing plan.

Massive Earthquake in the Stanley Idaho area possible

#2. Sawtooth Mountains and Stanley Idaho Earthquake Possibilities: A scientist and professor from Idaho State University at Pocatello discovered a 40 mile long fault that could trigger a large earthquake. Effects could/would be felt in places like Boise and Sun Valley. Considering how close Stanley, Idaho is located to this fault, property values may decrease a little over the next few centuries.

BLM Land in Idaho's Jarbidge area

#3. Jarbidge Resource Management Plan Could Restrict Access to Your BLM Land: The Magic Valley Times-News out of Twin Falls posted and article about the 1.4 million acres of public land in southwest Idaho and northern Nevada. The BLM is trying to manage Jarbidge area lands and the current plans could restrict some users of this land. The BLM’s Resource Management Plan (RMP) apparently is quite extensive (book sized) and they are looking for public guidance on how this land should be managed over the next 20 years. You must act quickly to get you opinions known as the comment period ends January 31, 2010.

Saving the Town of Council Idaho

#4. A Move and Movie to Save the Town of Council, Idaho: Like many small towns in Idaho, the town of Council is hurting. While some say the great recession of 2009-2010 is mostly to blame for their economic woes, I believe not. The timber/logging industry has been sagging for the last 10 years and this likely started the long economic slide Council is currently experiencing. But Council is now doing something unique by using an “indie” movie to market this town midway between Weiser and Riggins, Idaho. I’m already planning a weekend trip to Council during the summer of 2011. This area off Highway 93 looks like a great place for some uncrowded fishing, ATV’ing and rock hounding.
