I was looking for a place for some early Spring mountain biking and came across the City of Rocks National Reserve and the neighboring Idaho State Park called Castle Rocks. These parks are located in extreme south-central Idaho
located in extreme south-central Idaho
close to the Utah border. This area’s claim to fame is "rock climbing" as it contains some of the best technical climbing in the USA.
The City of Rocks / Castle Rocks parks sit in a lesser known mountain range called the Albion Mountains. The landscape can be classified as a sagebrush steppe with plenty of juniper and/or pinyon trees interspersed about the many granite outcroppings and spires.
