(February 15, 2019 / Author: Tim Bondy) On February 12, 2019, I took a drive on Maui’s Hana Highway in Hawaii. While the entire drive is pretty spectacular, there were a few places that “got away.” One of the places was Honomanu Beach located on the north shore of this lush and green portion of the island. I’ll be back for a visit, in part, to explore this beach plus many other locations that “got away” during this trip.

The black sand beach is located on the south side of Honomanu Bay near mile marker 13 on Maui’s Highway 36, more commonly called the Hana Highway. I don’t believe this hike-in beach (probably 4-wheel drive vehicle also) is marked with road signs. The land ownership of the road/trail down to the beach is also unknown so before heading to Honomanu, do your research. I will when I get back to Maui.
Let me Know if you go
I understand the water may be murkier than the typical Hawaiian beach as the Honomanu Stream flows down a pretty steep canyon into the waters near the beach. In any case, please send me a quick email if you decide to head to this cool little beach. Look for my contact information on this site.
