Wild Water North Fork of the Payette

As anyone from Idaho can tell you we had a very wet Spring 2010. All this rain and wet high country snow caused lots of rivers and creeks to overflow their banks and become some people’s idea of a good time. We were on vacation in early June 2010 and as we made our way southward from Kellogg to Mountain Home we encountered amazing sights along many of Idaho’s rivers. The two rivers that stand out in my memory were the Little Salmon River south of Riggins and the Payette River along Highway 55 south of Cascade, Idaho. Both these rivers were above flood stage on the day we drove past and along them and it was wild.

Because our vacation was coming to an end, I’m sorry to say we didn’t stop to take pictures…because as they say “Pictures of it didn’t happen”. Much to my surprise though, I found this video taken along the North Fork of the Payette River. It’s really a June 2010 video trailer from a full length whitewater kayaking movie called “WildWater”. While we were driving south along this river Toni and I wondered if the river was ride-able in a raft or kayak. I think we both decided that no sane person would willingly slip into a kayak and attempt what we though would be the impossible. As you can see, we were wrong or maybe the kayakers were just plain crazy?
