ATV’ing Sunday September 20th, 2009 on Marsh Creek to Cayuse Point Area

This would be our second day of the "first weekend" we would stay in Featherville. We decided to explore some of the ridge lines north of the South Fork of the Boise River. This was to be a quick trip so we started out 7:30AM. It was rather cool this morning as we headed east out of Featherville along the South Boise River Road. Our destination was a dirt road up Marsh Creek and it wasn’t long before we found our turn. Once we turned, we had no idea where we would be going but that is part of our exploration process.
The only thing we knew was we wanted to get high up on a ridge line to watch how the rising sun and shadows changed the look mountains and valleys. This area of the Sawtooth National Forest is criss-crossed with many trails/roads so we had to guess which roads would take us up on a ridge.

We eventually made it to a ridgeline across from a prominent peak called Cayuse Point. From this ridge we had fantastic views. We spent about 45 minutes on this ridge soaking in the scenery and trying to warn up.
We needed to head back to the Feather River Motel to check out and leave our temporary mountain home. We slowly drove back towards the South Boise River Road enjoying a whole new view as the sun started penetrating some of the valleys we passed through.

Cool morning for a trip into Idaho’s mountain trails
We met up with a couple of people during this ride up Marsh Creek. One hunter had a flat tire and the other person we never saw. But we knew he was up near Cayuse Point as his ATV was parked along side the trail. Overall, this trip was one of the most scenic ATV rides we have taken. The early morning hours in the Idaho mountains really gave us a completely different perspective.
