Update on the Daniel Dopps Rodeo

Here is an update on the Daniel Dopps Rodeo held in Mountain Home, Idaho at the end of June, 2008.

In Memory of Daniel Dopps

As a result of the generous people of Idaho, volunteers and the contestants of this rodeo much good will come from the tragic death of a young 19 year old gentleman from Mountain Home in August 2005. I quote Ramona Dopps:

“Truly this [Rodeo] is a labor of love for our family, friends and supporters and we love to hear when someone has a good time.

As a charitable rodeo, our only purpose is to raise funds to donate back into the community and state. I am happy to report that as a result of this year’s rodeo, there will be donations close to $11,000 made. All of these donations will directly go back to organizations that support youth activities, care for children and their families and educational scholarships right here for Elmore County.”

Why?
I want to remind you why there is a Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo. This information comes from the following website:

Daniel died on August 7, 2005 from injuries
sustained at a PRCA rodeo on August 6. He was
19.
The night before he died, he lived one of his
dreams. He had drawn Crossfire Hurricane at the
Idaho Falls PRCA Rodeo. Just to have the chance
to put his rope on this great bull had him on Cloud
9. Though he did not ride Crossfire for eight
seconds, he sure gave him heck for about five. He
told a television reporter that night while he was
being interviewed on television, “I just want
everyone to know that this is what I do. I’m going
to keep doing it until I can’t do it anymore.”
