On Saturday March 22nd, 2008 I took a ride out to the Bruneau Canyon Overlook south of Mountain Home, Idaho. This geologic wonder is about 40 miles south of my home. The approach involves mainly paved roads through the high desert. About 8 miles from this overlook, the paved road turns to a dirt road.
I was way surprise to see just how deep and wonderful this canyon really is. For the most part, the approach to the overlook is flat and then you get to see the edge of the drop off. I wasn’t prepared for the depth and beauty of this area.

I’m not a good judge of distances but I’d say the drop into the canyon is between 500 and 700 feet. I just wonder how many pioneers way back in the early 1800’s just dropped off the face of the earth. Can you imagine some pioneer riding around in the early morning chasing after a deer or rabbit and the next thing he knows, he airborne for a few second.
