Congrats Councilman Urquidi and Schroeder But...

E-mail Print PDF

It's official!  Geoff Schroeder and Rich Urquidi beat out Alain Issac for the two at-large seats on the Mountain Home City Council.  As the local newspaper seemed to indicate, we [the people] win no matter who gets elected for these city council seats?

Seems like just yesterday the Mountain Home News, which is our local newspaper was saying we need new blood on the City Council.  Oh...that might have been said in 2011 when I was running for a council seat and I was new blood.  But they didn't endorse me for some reason.  And 2 years later, the same folks are saying the old blood is a sure winner for everybody?

Embarrassing but only about 43 650 people showed up for this election.  And why would, we the people, care who our next city councilpeople will be?  They don't do anything important other than guide where our city will be heading in the next year...or so.  So are, we the people, really winners no matter who become a city councilperson?  Maybe, but consider the following:

  • Mountain Home and Elmore County can again boast women have been purged from the Council/Commissioner ranks.
  • About the same amount/percentage of people voted in this election than volunteered to be infected with Hepatitis B at a recent gathering at a prison in Aleppo, Syria as reported by CNN.  Impressive!
  • This was the first time in the history modern politics where the total number of candidate campaign signs could be counted on 2 hands and one foot (15 if that was too complex for you).
  • Their agenda?  How about a candidate platform?  Or “what you got up your sleeve for the next 4 years” while helping govern the City of Mountain Home?  A website explaining any of this?  Nah...who needs any of that type of communication.

It all boils down to this!  The total amount of communication between candidates and the electorate was about 1.5 hours in a small meeting room at the library on an evening in mid-October.  I call that a big win for the people, don't you?

Mayor Issac Right Now or in 2 Years
The current lame duck Mayor, Tom Rist, has said he will not be running again, leaving his leather bound chair up for grabs in 2015.  Well, why not just appoint outgoing Mountain Home City Councilperson Alain Issac as the next future Mayor.  We'd save time, energy and the money it cost to hold an election.

I'm serious about this.  It's become abundantly clear we the people think we will be the big winners just because the local newspaper says so.  And for the record, I think Alain would make a very good elected Mayor if the 43 people voting in the next election agree.

  • F.W. Whitley  - Political perspective on Mountain Home, Elmore Cou

As 2013 ends, I am analyzing political data on various counties to prepare for 2014. I stumbled onto your website, and find your comments interesting regarding local political perspectives in Elmore County. Obviously the issues with the electorate are the same throughout Idaho--apathy and ignorance.

    (a) If you sleep upon your rights, you awake without them.
    (b) Liberty cannot be kept by an ignorant people.

Thought I would share those. Kind regards,

F.W.: Thanks for commenting on my article. But to be honest with you, it's hard to understand what you want me to believe. I did go to your website and it sure looks pretty. Ever think of writing interesting article for people to read and post them on that site? Heck, you don't even have any candidate info. And smaller government isn't a's a platform. Or is that what the Constitution Party is all about. You know, complaining but offering no solutions. Please get back to me with some answers. I'd be interested in your thoughts that don't revolve around 200 year old idioms. It's 2014 and we need people who will live, work and labor for the future.

  • F.W. Whitley  - Saturated bias, over salted by blind accusations

    Mr. Bondy,

You certainly have a parcel full of prepackaged presumption which you cart along with you, a fast food for thought of sorts which is apparently to pass as critical analysis. Sadly, this late vindictive (and frankly grossly hypocritical) saturated bias is obviously a jury pool disqualification. My original post merely commented that I found your site interesting...admittedly now, in retrospect, my comment was a lapse in judgment; and one which I hereby gladly withdraw as mistaken.

F.W. Whitley, the acting chairman of a political party was making comment and that was you. Please admit you are trolling for the Constitution Party of Idaho and nothing less. Only after that admission maybe we can move on to a discussion about solving problems. My "parcel full of prepackaged presumption" says the Chairman doesn't have any solutions and will tell his buddies he really told a small town blogger where to go. Until you, Mr Chairman, get some solutions on your website the only people that will follow you are the people with heads so far up their collective behinds they can only recite quotes from people of the 1700's.

Well Chairman F.W. Whitley, the ball is in your court. Update that website you chair, send me the links for the solutions you and your buddies propose and then we can meet for a cup of coffee to talk politics. Want to make a difference or do you just want to preach?

  • F.W. Whitley  - My initial comment an admitted laspe of judgment

    Mr. Bondy,

Again, I merely mentioned in passing while engaged in analytical work that I found this, a webpage from Mountain Home, to be interesting. I have withdrawn my original comment, and will gladly chalk it up as a mistaken temporary lapse in judgment.

It is my experience that meaningful dialog with a prejudicial and incendiary individual, such as you have here demonstrated yourself to be, is fruitless.

Your personal bitterness and apparent arrogance have metastasized into near incoherence, as any objective review of your comments here would indicate. As such, that truly is providing nothing, nothing to Idaho, and nothing to Mountain Home.

I do not care to imagine whatever personal reasons for your misplaced reactionary anger. That still does not excuse your incivility here. Therefore, outside of pointing out your own obvious hypocrisy, I have nothing further, doctor, beyond a suggestion that you heal yourself.

    F.W. Whitley
    Acting Chairman
    The Constitution Party of Idaho
