For the last few years I have been eyeing that unusual building complex north of Interstate 84 near Exit 90. I knew it was a power plant but never had the urge to see it up close until this past week.
Here is Idaho Power's explaination of a natural gas fired power plant in Mountain Home, Idaho:
"Housed with the Evander Andrews Complex, the 261-megawatt Danskin Power Plant consists of one, 171-MW simple cycle combustion turbines, using technology similar to an aircraft jet engine. On an airplane, a turbine engine is used to create thrust to push it through the sky. In a power plant application, that thrust turns an electrical generator to produce electricity. The plant was constructed to help Idaho Power have adequate generating resources to meet present and future energy needs."
