Newsflash

Sept 6, 2010: I have updated the Mountain Home Voters Guide to the 2010 General Election. This "sample ballot" for Mountain Home residents now includes the candidates for the Western Elmore County Recreation District. Two local residents have stepped up to the plate and believe they can do a proper job running the WECRD. Hopefully Judy Mayne and Nelson will give us the opportunity to discover what they plan on doing to straighten out the WECRD. Click HERE to download the guide.

Elmore County Press Uncovered

El-Wyhee Hi-Lites

The Elmore County Press is a local news organization publishing the free "El-Wyhee Hi-Lites" newspaper. You've probably read this newspaper a few times as it seems to be in almost every local business in Mountain Home. My regular spots for picking up a copy is at our local Subway restaurants and at P & C Plumbing and Electrical. I certainly enjoy this free "ad supported" newspaper with the latest issue featuring a story on the Jarbidge Gold Rush.

Why Uncovered?
I'm having some problems trying to figure out where this newspaper is going and how it's organized. When I first rolled into Mountain Home in December 2007, I found the El-Wyhee website while trying to discover more information about my new hometown. Then the website went blank shortly afterwards but just today I discovered their new (to me) website. The website has been branded under the Elmore County Press web domain found at http://www.elmorecountypress.com/ .

Alternatives Are Needed
Unless you cannot read, you have picked up a copy of our "corporate" local newspaper called the Mountain Home News and they do a fine job covering the news. They are obviously well financed and supported by local businesses. The Mountain Home News website has that spit-shined look and feel but we obviously need an alternative to keep our corporate news organization honest. And the Elmore County Press is filling that spot nicely. But with any business, they could use more customers so they can write cool and interesting article that the other newspaper doesn't delve into. I want to thank the owner and publisher of the Elmore County Press / El-Wyhee Hi-Lites for doing a great job and encourage people to support the only alternative to local news in Elmore County.
