What does fishing mean to local businesses

E-mail Print PDF

Fishing is big business but not just Cabela's, REI or Big 5 Sporting Goods stores. Attracting fishermen to a city can increase business and in some cases attract big money. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game conducted a survey of about 26,000 fishermen in 2003. This survey determined that the average fisherman in Idaho spends about $150 a day.

What's in your wallet and fishing net

With so many great fishing spots right in Elmore County, we ranked 14 out 44 counties surveyed in Idaho. Fishermen spent over $11 Million in Elmore County during 2003 on things like food, supplies, transportation and a place to sleep.

Below you will find some of the statistics from the 2003 Idaho Department of Fish and Game survey. The top graph is for Elmore County and the second graph is for the whole State of Idaho. I also provided the raw numbers.

Not all categories were included in the statistics, graphs and raw data.
